Zoya Cherkassky-Nnadi: New African Art (4.4 – 10.5)

Zoya Cherkassky Nnadi 2014All the works of Zoya Cherkassky-Nnadi (Kiev 1976, represented by Rosenfeld Gallery in Tel Aviv) which are exhibited in circle1, except of  three paintings were done during her two visits to Ngwo, Nigeria, in 2013. The three larger paintings, were produced when she got back to Israel, based on fresh memories as well as preliminary sketches done in situ.

Zoya Cherkassky Nnadi 2014Zoya Cherkassky – Nnadi’s paintings depict the village’s daily situations: at home, at family meetings, at the market. Being a family member and not a tourist (Ngwo being her spouse’s home town), allows her to observe the place in an intimate and direct fashion. She has the vantage point  that no tourist can acquire by being part of the people living in Ngwo, and so she infiltrates herself into the matrix of the village and delivers an authentic report of its life.
