At Circle1’s Conversation #1 on 19.3.2018 Ms. Noemi Givon discussed the exhibition “Modern Artists” from 1926 at Jerusalem’s David Tower that was organized by the students of the Bezalel Academy. They rebelled against the school and against the making of provincial art.
“Twice immigrants” to Israel they returned towards the establishment of the state, participated for the first time in the newly built Israeli pavilion at the Venice Biennale as an art movement established under the title “New Horizons”.
Among the points of discussion was their ethics of disconnecting Zionism and politics from art, the need to find an universal language and the cultural strategy of the autonomic, secular art making in Israel.
